Audacity – Edit Track

Audacity provides editing tools for you to edit your audio.  With these tools you can split a clip, remove unwanted words and phrases and copy a part of the track from one place to another.

Select a part of the audio track

Use the selection tool to select a part of the track.

  • Move the play head to the starting point to by clicking on the track with the left mouse button. 
    Notice the selection tool is highlighted and a new black line appears on the track. When you click play, the play head will play from this point.
  • To make the selection, hold down the left mouse button and drag with the mouse.

Delete a section of the track.

  1. Select the part of the track you wish to delete using the selection tool.
  2. Select Delete from the Edit menu or hit the Delete key on your keyboard.

Select the whole track.

  • Double click with the left     mouse to select the whole track.
  • Select Delete from the Edit menu or hit the Delete key on your keyboard.

Copy and paste a section of the track

  • Select the part of the track you wish to delete.
  • Select Copy from the Edit menu.
  • Move the play head to a new point by clicking on the track with the mouse.
  • Select Paste from the Edit menu to paste to the new position.

Undo

  • To undo your last action select Undo from the Edit menu.
